HSE and JSC Glonass Sign Cooperation Agreement

JSC Glonass and the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM HSE) have signed an agreement to work together in the field of satellite navigation technology in order to create services that foster the socioeconomic development of Russia and its regions.

JSC Glonass and the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM HSE) have signed an agreement to work together in the field of satellite navigation technology in order to create services that foster the socioeconomic development of Russia and its regions. 

The main focus of the partnership will be the development of research, as well as the implementation of experimental programmes in the field of navigation and the internet of things. The objective is to improve the quality and accessibility of navigation and information technologies.

‘JSC Glonass focuses on creating trusted services based on global navigational and communication-based networks for various industries and end users. Rising market demand and government requirements in the field of navigational technologies require responsible and competent representatives from various industries to join efforts. As a result of our search for an effective partner that has the fundamental competencies in scientific research and education, we found MIEM. I am certain that our cooperation will prove fruitful,’ comments Glonass CEO Igor Milashevsky.

‘The project learning model being implemented at MIEM requires that various projects be carried out that are alone capable of training contemporary specialists in the field of the digital economy. Because of this, it is crucial that we partner up with modern tech companies that, on the one hand, have mastered the tasks that have to be solved today, while on the other, possess the contemporary technological foundation to carry out experimental research. As part of our cooperation with JSC Glonass, we are planning to train specialists in so-called cross-cutting technologies – wireless transmission and the internet of things. Currently, the Russian market is experiencing a lack of highly qualified professionals in this field. We are hoping to change this situation,’ notes Evgenii Krouk, the Academic Supervisor and Acting Director of MIEM.

This year MIEM is launching its first master’s programme in the Internet of Things and Cyber-physical Systems. The programme’s courses are based on those at European universities and focus on the needs of companies currently operating in this field. An important distinction is that along with training equipment, master’s students will also learn on professional equipment actually used in the industry. The master’s programme focuses on the internet of things, big data, cloud computing, and cyber security.
