HSE Partners with Samsung to Open IoT Samsung Academy

HSE and Samsung Electronics have signed an agreement to jointly implement the ‘IoT Samsung Academy’ programme. As part of this agreement, MIEM will start teaching specialists in the Internet of Things (IoT) from September 2018.

MIEM HSEstudents studying ‘Informatics and Computer Hardware and Software’, ‘Applied Mathematics’, and ‘Information and Communication Technologies and Systems’ will be able to get a year-long free course at the IoT Samsung Academy. This course studies real cases of IoT implementation in various areas of life, and students will develop their own prototypes of IoT devices. The course is organized in two semesters: the first being more theoretical, and the second half more practical. Students will work on their projects individually and in small groups.

The classes will be conducted by HSE teachers, who will receive additional training from Samsung experts during the summer of 2018. They will be assisted by Master’s students, and Samsung Electronics will provide the IoT Academy with teaching and learning aids developed by experts from the Samsung Research Centre, as well as an extended set of equipment for the IoT laboratory, such as sets for rapid prototyping, Samsung ARTIK microcomputers, and other cutting edge devices.

From the HSE side, the programme will be headed by Leonid Voskov, Professor at the School of Computer Engineeringand Academic Supervisor at the programme ‘Internet of Things and Cyber-physical Systems’:  ‘The learning format offered by Samsung is very popular among students today. The Internet of Things is a highly relevant area, and a growing trend in information technology, partly thanks to growing wireless networks, development of cloud computing, computer interaction and other technologies. The areas of application for IoT are truly boundless’.

‘The aim of the IoT Samsung Academy project is to create competency centres for IoT technologies at the country’s leading tech universities, including HSE MIEM. This will allow us to contribute to the development of the digital economy in Russia’, said Sergey Pevnev, Head of Corporate Relations and Government Relations at Samsung Electronics.

Students who successfully complete the course at IoT Samsung Academy will get certificates of completion.
