Representatives of about 30 international universities have come to Moscow to take part in International Partner Week at HSE and discuss cooperation agreements, joint educational programmes, and research and student exchange programmes. On June 23, a partner university fair will be held for HSE students.
To date, HSE has established partnerships with almost 300 universities, consortiums and research centers all over the globe. ‘With their help, we’ve launched more than a hundred student exchange programmes, and several double degree programmes’, said Ivan Prostakov, HSE Vice Rector, at the Partner Week opening ceremony. ‘These collaborations have also prompted us to launch a lot of English-taught programmes and courses, and HSE is taking the lead among Russian universities in these terms today’.
Partner Week involves about 50 official university representatives from Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherland, Norway, China, Japan, USA, and other countries. They are vice rectors responsible for international relations, deans and deputy deans for research and international cooperation, heads of international offices, and coordinators of international programmes. HSE already has active agreements with many of them, and plans to sign agreements with others in the near future.
During Partner Week, the HSE guests will discuss internationalization, visit HSE faculties and laboratories (including those at MIEM and the Graduate School of Urbanism), and even dorms. Some will also visit HSE campuses in St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, and Perm. The organizers believe this will help HSE partners ‘immerse themselves in our university’s dynamic, international and friendly environment’.
‘I visited HSE last year, and we signed an agreement between our faculties’, said Dr. Miguel Buñuel, Vice Dean for International and Institutional Affairs at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid’s Faculty of Economics and Business Studies, ‘I’m really impressed by the university, and I think it is one of our best partners. We’ve already had some professor exchanges, and next on our agenda will be taking this a step further, we’ll see if we can develop a double degree programme.’
David Zaret, Vice President for International Affairs at Indiana University, described their renewed agreement with HSE: ‘I am here because we renewed our agreement with HSE. We had a productive exchange agreement for faculty at HSE and Indiana University. This has been expanded in the renewed agreement, so that our faculty has the option of going to either the HSE Moscow or the St. Petersburg campus. Beyond that, we are also interested in exploring other areas of cooperation with HSE. These university s are even more important when international relations are unsettled. That is the primary purpose of having people-to-people , with faculty and students going back and forth. At Indiana University, we are deliberately expanding our activities in light of the current administration in Washington D.C. I am opening up a gateway office in Mexico, and I accelerated those efforts after our current president was elected’.
Representatives of several German universities have come to Partner Week at HSE, including Nikolas Djukić, Executive Director of the Bavarian Academic Center for Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe (BAYHOST). This Center brings together 36 Bavarian universities, which are ‘very interested in reinforcing cooperation with Russia’.
‘We first visited HSE last year’, said Nikolas Djukić, ‘We have chosen HSE, since it’s a leading university in economics and management, and is part in the project aimed at improving international competitiveness. Now we are getting cooperation offers from various HSE faculties, and this week will be an opportunity to learn more about them. But we also have something to offer HSE. In autumn, we are holding a Russian-Bavarian conference in economics, and I would like to let our Russian colleagues about it and invite them to take part’.
HSE students will also have an opportunity to learn more about all the universities participating in Partner Week and to ask questions to their representatives. To this end, an HSE Exchange Fair will be held on June 23 at 11 Myasnitskaya Ulitsa, Room 518, from 10 am.
